Stan S
1972 Chevelle
We've had this Chevelle 1 1/2 years. We sold a blue '72
Malibu after moving back to Nebraska to buy an '88
Corvette with 35K miles, drove it for 2 months, then traded
it in on the '72 we have now.
This '72 is a California car that the previous owner worked
on for 5 years and only put 100 miles on it the entire time.
Basically it sat in the garage and he worked on it (while
making it a clone) but never drove it. I've put 3K miles on it
since we've had it.
It's a 350/TH350 with a 10 bolt axle non-posi with 3.08
gears. I got the axle for free through a contact from the
Heartland Chevelle Club. I still have the 12 bolt that it came
with but it only has 2.73 gears and is non-posi. I'm hanging
onto the 12 bolt for if I ever put a big block in.
The exhaust valve guides were shot when I bought it and it
smoked when first started. So I couldn't leave things alone
and replaced the heads with 305 heads that had been ported
out and raised the compression. I also installed a VooDoo
cam/springs/lifters last winter. Last spring I installed a
Classic Auto Air conditioning system to cope with the hot
Nebraska summer cruises, it also convinced my wife to go
on some cruises together!
It's basically been restored to stock condition other than the
motor mods. A few things from the 'to do' list are; rear sway
bar, boxed rear control arms, posi, convert from auto to
manual trans, SS round gage dash, 454 big block, and the
list goes on and on...
